Commissioned by Cosimo II de ‘Medici, it was positioned adjacent to the ancient silk market in 1640 and later transformed into a fountain to supply water traders during the long working days. It is a traditional superstitious symbol that no one can resist to have their wishes fulfilled through a caress to that worn shaggy muzzle.
